Initial planning for establishment of The Veterinary Council f Sri Lanka was done in 1952 and the establishment was confirmed under the Veterinary Surgeons and Practitioners Act No:46 of 1956. Dr Peter Seneviratne (BVSc, MRCVS) was the first Registrar of the Veterinary Council, he was instrumental in preparing and implementing the Veterinary Surgeons & Practitioners Act.
